Development of Environmental Incident Response Plans

Objective:

To review site emergency response plans involving releases of substances to the environment and recommend actions for improvements.

Added value to client:

The client was able to use this review to improve existing site emergency response plans with respect to procedures for environmental incidents.

Activity:

RM Consultants Ltd (RMC) reviewed the existing emergency response plans to identify any shortfalls with respect to environmental incidents. The site and individual facility level emergency response plans and COMAH MATTE documentation was examined to identify any discrepancies and deficiencies in environmental protection (engineered or managerial) following an unforeseen event, which could potentially harm the environment.

In addition, interviews were conducted with those responsible for emergency response to ensure that key personnel were aware of their accountability with respect to environmental protection.

This review was treated in the first stage in the overall development of the client’s environmental incident response plans for their main site.

Where shortfalls in the response to environmental incidents were identified a way forward was presented in the form of an action for improvement.
