Information Management

Objective:

To identify the scale of Information Management requirements on the organisation based on their local procedures to address internal and external requirements. It was also to give visibility of the Information Management loading on specific personnel.

Added value to client:

The client was able to use this review to improve existing site emergency response plans with respect to procedures for environmental incidents.

Activity:

The information requirements on a major infrastructure and asset management company such as rail operators is vast. This varies from CDM Health and Safety Files to formal minutes of meetings with their Suppliers to management of databases for asset maintenance schedules.

At a corporate level, the identification of the complete picture is not particularly clear, making a proper assessment of the overall Information burden problematic.

Therefore, a full analysis of corporate procedures was conducted assigning each identified information management requirement a:

  • Responsible person;
  • Type, i.e. Permit to start, record of evidential value, etc;
  • Delivered outcome.

This data allowed assessments of the information burden to be conducted and a preferred position for identified requirements to be assigned in the planned Information Management documentation regime.
