Management and Production of a Site Safety Case for a Major Nuclear Operator

Objective:

To manage the submission of a Safety Case Report to the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII), to enable the continued operation of the Nuclear Licensed Site.

AREVA Risk Management Consulting Ltd's (AREVA RMC's) role is to develop the safety documentation necessary to continue operations at the site with minimum risk to operators and the public.

AREVA RMC has a highly qualified team of safety case experts, who have an excellent working knowledge of the company procedures, the site and its hazards. Our strong project management and good relationship with the NII are critical to the successful delivery of this major project.

Activity:

AREVA RMC is charged with examining the Health and Safety strategy of the operator's site, addressing NII licence instrument issues, and managing the preparation of a Safety Case Report.

AREVA RMC has responsibility for managing the delivery process and contributing the majority of the technical input to this work. To enable effective management of the safety case production AREVA RMC has developed detailed scopes of work and a programme for delivery.

To produce the technical input AREVA RMC is leading a number of separate safety case teams to carry out the safety assessment, on specific areas based on a process or hazard.

AREVA RMC will prepare the main Safety Case for submission to the (NII).

AREVA RMC is employing the services of several engineering and technical consultancies, and will manage the production of the final reports in order for the work to enact the highest standard possible, and to be completed within the limited time frame.

This major project is due to last one year and is of major strategic importance. The project will require the use of approximately twenty consultants, to cover all possible aspects of health and safety on this extremely large, diverse and high hazard site.
